I've been on a blog vacation I guess. I'm still here and have so much to post I don't know where to begin.
So I'll start by posting what is most fresh on my mind.
The saddest story ever.
This story is not for the faint in heart so stop reading now if you are.
Yesterday I was out running and walking (working up to always running) with Jake. It was a beautiful, sunny 40 degree day (you warm weather people can laugh at 40 degrees being warm but it was). We took an extra long walk 6.5 miles, it was glorious. Until ..the end.
We were passing a house on our way home when a cute white fluffy dog came bouncing up the drive way across the street. He was headed over to see Jake. Often times dogs will do that but they will stop at the top of the drive way. This dog didn't and started into the street.
Which was fine, until a car came around the corner. The dog was in the middle of the road. I remember thinking that the car had enough time from when he turned the corner to when he would reach the dog to see him and slow down but he didn't. He hit the dog and ran right over his back leg.
I was shocked as I sat there and watched. The poor dog was moving around trying to ease the pain on his back leg. I didn't go help him because I had Jake and figured that would only cause more stress for the dog.
The owner of the dog came running over and cried out "NO" as he fell to the ground in tears reaching out for his dog. It was the saddest thing to watch. All of the dogs movement had caused the dog to almost completely lose his back leg, by the time the owner reached the dog (this all happened in about 20 seconds).
The most tender moment of this entire situation happened when the owner reached the dog, who up until this point had not stopped yapping in pain, when he picked the dog up and cradled him in his arms the dog calmed right down and didn't make another sound.
Without saying another word the owner picked his dog up and walked into his house and that's all I know. After I got myself together I walked the rest of the way home. The driver, who never got out of his car, stayed for a few more minutes I'm sure wondering what he should do and then drove away.
It was so sad to watch that. That poor dog. That poor owner and I am now traumatized.
